912,846. Reservoir pads; hand-tool handles; scrapers. FOUNTAIN, L. S. Aug. 8, 1961 [Oct. 27, 1960], No. 36946/60. Classes 19 and 61. A device for applying liquid to a surface comprises a hand-tool which includes an apertured tube 4, a handle 9 secured thereto and an absorbent member 2 enclosing the tube, and a housing 21 surrounding the absorbent member and from which the handtool can be removed for use. The housing is of such a length that when the hand-tool is fully inserted therein the absorbent member does not extend out of the housing. As shown, the handle 9 is attached by a screw 17 which passes through the hollow handle and engages the internally screw - threaded aperture 7. Alternatively the handle may be screw - threaded directly into the end of tube 4. Sealing means may be provided between the handle 9 and tube 4. The absorbent member 2 may be of natural or synthetic fibres or may be porous synthetic resin-moulded about the tube. The member 2 may be covered except for a surface strip with a non-porous material or completely covered by a porous coat, e.g. woven fabric. The housing 21 may be of plastic or metal and includes a backing plate having a semi-circular lug 22 at one end through which is a hole 23 and a scraper blade portion 24. Welded to the backing plate is the housing proper made so that at least the bottom is liquid-tight.
