Abstract

912,829. Seaming non-metallic sheet material. FULMER RESEARCH INSTITUTE Ltd. Sept. 5, 1961 [Sept. 6, 1960], No. 30691/60. Class 42 (1). An acrylic polymer, e.g. polymethyl methacrylate, is bonded to a halogen containing polymer, e.g. polyvinyl chloride, of lower softening temperature there than, by softening the latter and j joining the two materials together. A 45 degrees chamfer is formed on one edge of a polymethyl methacrylate sheet which is then placed perpendicularly against the face of another sheet of polymethyl methacrylate to form a 45 degrees trough along the intersection. The sheets are heated by a hot air torch in the region of the trough so that a polyvinyl chloride welding rod attaches itself to the sheets as it is pressed into the trough at an angle approximately bisecting the angle between the two surfaces of the trough and approximately perpendicular to the line of their intersection.
