Abstract

910,237. Thermally insulating and heating pipes. ISOPAD Ltd., and MOLLER, R. Jan. 19, 1961 [Oct. 23, 1959], No. 35959/59. Class 99(2). Sheet sheathing for thermal lagging on pipes comprises readily separable upper and lower sheathing sections 3, 4, Fig. 1, the upper sheathing section of which extends through more than 180 degrees with the marginal end portions overlapping those of the lower sheathing section, and by its resilience maintaining both sheathing sections in place. Metal sheathing 3, 4, is sprung on or slid on laterally on lagging 1, 2, with the upper section 3 overlapping the lower section 4. End cups 5, 6, Fig. 2, 3, having cutaways 7 are fitted with the upper portion 5 overlapping the lower portion 6. In non-horizontal pipe runs, the lower end of each pair of sheathing sections overlaps the upper end of the adjacent pair. In another embodiment the lagging may be attached e.g. by adhesive, to the sheathing so that the upper sheathing overlaps the semicylindrical lagging at each side to overlap and support the lower lagging and sheathing section which only extends through 180 degrees of arc. Adjacent pairs of sections are arranged in overlapping relationship with upper and lower overlapping part-cylindrical pieces arranged to encircle the joint line. To enable the upper shell to be sprung over the lower shell, the upper lagging may not be attached to the upper sheathing at the marginal edge portions. End caps having transverse walls which extend only through 180 degrees of arc may be used on either embodiment. The upper and lower sections may be additionally secured by metal straps. The meeting faces of the sheathing sections may be sealed by an adhesive or by polyvinyl chloride tape. The lagging may be of fibreglass and may be fitted with electric heating tapes or panels, connected to weatherproof junction boxes fitted to the lower sheathing sections. Specification 713,768 is referred to.
