Abstract

909,880. Moulding lenses. LAUBMAN & PANK Ltd. June 1, 1961 [June 3, 1960], No. 19735/61. Class 87(2). A method of manufacture of moulded plastic articles, e.g. lenses, comprises inserting a pair of complementary dies 10, 11 into a supporting and locating means comprising a deformable tube 12, separating the dies, injecting a resin into the space between the dies and at least partly curing the resin while in the space. The resin may be alkyl diglycol carbonate containing a curing catalyst e.g. 2 to 5% by weight of benzoyl peroxide or isopropyl percarbonate. The dies 10, 11 are first cleaned before and after inserting into tube 12, which may be of a vinyl plastic, and are separated by introducing compressed air between their complementary faces. A die positioning device comprises a base 14 upon which is mounted a movable member 21. Two groups of adjustable pins are mounted opposing each other, one on the movable member and the other on a vertical slide which is part of base 14, the plane of the ends of the former pins being adjustable by screw members 23. A scale 20 gives the horizontal separation of the two groups of pins. Dies 10, 11 in tube 12 may be clamped in V blocks 31, adjustable in slide 18 by screws 32 and locked by screws 35.
