Abstract
The invention comprises the gibberellic acid derivative, 2,4a,7-trihydroxy-1-methyl-8-oxogibb-3-ene-1,10-dicarboxylic acid 1-->4a lactone of the formula: <FORM:0909752/IV (b)/1> and salts thereof, and the preparation thereof by the ozonolysis of gibberellic acid followed by reduction of the ozonide. Reduction may be effected with triphenylphosphine.ALSO:Plant growth promoting compositions comprise 2, 4a, 7 - trihydroxy - 1 - methyl - 8 - oxogibb-3- ene- 1, 10- dicarboxylic acid- 1-4a lactone of the formula: or a salt thereof, in admixture with diluents or carriers therefore. Such compositions may be in the form of solutions or suspensions in aqueous or in organic media, emulsions, powders for direct application, dispersible powders, or solid compressed shaped preparations.
