Abstract

Aqueous solutions comprising normally water-insoluble organic compounds are prepared by adding the insoluble compound alone or in solution in a water-miscible organic solvent therefor to an aqueous solution containing an alkali metal, calcium or magnesium salt of hippuric acid, cyclohexyl-salicylic acid or cyclohexylsalicylaric acid which acids may optionally be substituted in the benzene nucleous by one or more C1-6 alkyl or cycloalkyl radicals. The solutions may be converted to dry preparations, e.g. by vacuum distillation, freeze-drying or spray drying to give solids which may readily be redissolved in water. Water-insoluble organic compounds specifically mentioned include actinomycin C and F1, antibiotics, e.g. nystatin and resistomycin, slightly soluble streptomycin salts, e.g. the salt with 5-cyclohexyl-o-cresotic acid, sulphonamides, e.g. 2-sulphanic-amido-4,6-dimethyl pyrimidine, diuretics, e.g. theophylline and diphenylmethane - 4,41 - disulphonamide, vitamins, e.g. lactoflavin and Vitamin A acetate, plant protectives, e.g. phyllomycin, pest control agents, e.g. 3 - methoxy - 4 - N,N - diethyl - carbamidomethoxy-phenyl acetic acid n-propyl ester and disinfectants.
