Abstract

908,940. Supply circuits for space discharge apparatus. STONE & CO. (DEPTFORD) Ltd., J. July 29, 1960 [Aug. 18, 1959], No. 28208/59. Class 38 (4). A supply circuit for supplying a number of fluorescent lamps 4 on a train from the train generator 1 comprises a transistor inverter which has a single driving oscillator 6 separate from one or more output stages 7, the output stages and preferably the oscillator being mounted on the outside of the train so as to utilize the flow of air due to the movement of the train for cooling the transistors. The apparatus includes harmonic filters 8 to convert the square-wave output of the inverter to a sinusoidal waveform and a surge and ripple suppressor 11 to protect the apparatus against over voltage and to eliminate voltage ripple from the generator 1. The voltage output from the inverter is stepped up to a value suitable for the lamps 4 by a leakage transformer 9 which also serves as the lamp ballast. Alternatively the step-up transformer may be included in the output stage and the lamps provided with a ballast choke.
