Abstract

908,630. Stretching fabrics. M.K.M. KNITTING MILLS Inc. July 3, 1961, No. 23937/61. Class 42 (1). Apparatus for stretching fabric, e.g. a knitted swimsuit panel 12 or series of panels, to predetermined shape comprises a board 10 mounted on a support 14 and which has side edges shaped to the stretched form of the fabric and a slide fastener device along each of the said sides of the board 10 and comprising two separable members 22, 24, each member 22 being secured to the support 14. The board 10 is covered with a cloth 16 over a top pad 18. When the members 22 of the zip fastener are first mounted on the support 14 the members 24 are joined therewith and marks 26, 28 are made thereon to indicate the positions of maximum and minimum width of the board. The members 24 are detached from the members 22 and are then tacked on to the edges of the panels 12 with the marks 28 aligned with marks on the panels 12 made during the knitting operation. The members 24 are joined to the members 22 with the marks 26, 28 aligned to stretch the panels 12 transversely to enable ornamental designs to be applied thereto. If a silk screen process is employed boards 36 are mounted on the support 14, as shown. To prevent longitudinal contraction of the fabric tenter hooks 32 are mounted on the support 14 near the ends of the board 10. After treatment the members 24 are removed from the panels 12.
