Abstract
908,515. Relieving lathes. GROSSDREHMASCHINENBAU " 8 MAI " VEB. Sept. 27, 1960, No. 33164/60. Class 83 (3). A relieving lathe or like machine tool has the longitudinal and transverse feed movements controlled from a cam-shaft driven by a motor through impulses from a time relay, the cams on the cam-shaft each being in operative connection with a signal potentiometer linked to a repeater potentiometer, the slides being moved finally by mechanical transmission means. The camshaft 2 is driven by the motor 3 through reduction gearing 4 and magnetic clutch 5, a brake 6 is arranged at the other end of the shaft. The clutch 5 and brake 6 are connected to an adjustable time relay 7. Cams 8 and 9 for transverse and longitudinal feed are mounted on the control shaft. More cams may be carried if required and those selected for a particular operation brought into circuit operation by the use of a plug-board and punched templets. The cam 8 moves a slide 11 which carries a worm wheel with an inclined face 16<SP>1</SP>, this may be adjusted to vary the movement transmitted to a rack 17. The latter operates the arm 18 of a signal potentiometer 13. Signals are transmitted to a receiving potentiometer 19 secured to the transverse slide and these are translated into feed movements by a motor 26 and mechanical gears and feed screw. Manual adjustment is provided through a hand wheel 33. A similar arrangement is described for the longitudinal feed. A stop rod 41 with dogs and switches controls the direction of rotation of the lathe spindle 62 through reversing gearing 39. An eccentric 51 on the spindle operates an impulse generator for the time relay 7. The lathe may be set for automatically (a) truing the flanks of a milling cutter, (b) relieving the flanks (rough), (c) relieving the flanks (finish). Backing-off is effected in known manner without automatic operation. Multi-start cutters may be operated upon. A number of machines may be wired together to carry out the same operations with a single control box.
