Abstract

908,306. Gates. JENKINS, N., and POLLARD, B. July 12, 1961 [July 13, 1960], No. 24380/60. Class 45. A safety gate comprises a centre portion 11, two side pieces 12 adapted for slidable association with the centre portion so as to permit adjustment of the overall width of the gate, means for attaching the side pieces 12 to the sides 10 of an opening across which the gate is to be positioned, and stop means for adjustably locating the sides pieces 12 relatively of the centre piece 11. As shown the centre portion has upper and lower rails 11a formed with longitudinal guide grooves into which fit flanges formed on the rails 12 of the side pieces. The vertical side posts 12a are slidably engaged with a pair of channel components 13 attached to each side 10 of the opening. The channel components have inwardly directed flanges which fit into grooves formed in the posts 12a. Dowel ring 14 passed through apertures in the upper and/or lower rails of the side pieces function as stops subsequent to the adjustment to required width. According to the Provisional Specification the gate may be formed in two parts only.
