The nuclear reactor core space 1 is formed within the reflector 2, 3, 8 and accommodates the fuel in the form of ball-shaped bodies, poured through the central opening 5. The lower surface of 3 is shaped to lie parallel to the conical upper surface of the fuel charge and spaced from it by a distance, 7, which is adjusted to be about three times the diameter of a fuel element, in accordance with the size of the fuel charge.
