908,267. Polarisers. CARL-ZEISS-STIFTUNG, [trading as JENAER GLASWERK SCHOTT & GEN.]. March 18, 1959 [March 21, 1958], No. 9447/59. Class 97 (1). A polariser (Fig. 3) includes a raster, consisting of light admission and light masking strips (the sum of the widths of two adjacent strips is the period d), and comprises superimposed planoparallel plates with interference surface layers inclined at a Brewster angle α (differing from 45 degrees) to incident light falling at 90 degrees to the surface of the polariser, and arranged so that # is between d.q and d(1 - q) and h/# = cotg α where # is the distance between two polarized rays emerging from the polariser which originated from the same incident ray; h is the thickness of the polariser; and q is the ratio of the width of a light masking strip of the raster to the width of a light admission strip. The raster may have any of the forms shown in Figs. 5, 6, 7. German Specifications 935,663 and 935,983 are referred to.
