Leaf tobacco is cut horizontally by two or more cutters 13 adjustably mounted on a disc 8 rotatable about a vertical axis disposed between the orifices 5, 6 of two substantially vertical tobacco conveying devices 1, 2. As shown, devices 1, 2 consist of converging conveyer belts 3. The disc 8 is mounted in a bearing 9 and is driven through bevel gearing 10, 11. The cut tobacco is caught in a hopper 15 and drops on to a conveyer 16.
