Abstract

1-Methyl-2-naphthol-3-(or 6) carboxylic acid is prepared by heating 2-hydroxy-3-(or 6) naphthoic acid dissolved in methanol and aqueous sodium hydroxide with chloroform to give 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde-3-(or 6) carboxylic acid, forming the hydrazone using hydrazine hydrate, and heating this with diethyl glycol, hydrazine hydrate and sodium hydroxide. 1 - Methyl - 2 - naphthol-6-carboxylic acid octadecyl amide is prepared by refluxing the acid with stearylamine in benzene and pyridine removing the water formed. 1 - Methyl-2-naphthol-6-carboxylic acid-21-(N-methyl-N-octadecylamino) - anilide-41-sulphonic acid is prepared by reacting potassium 1-methyl-2-naphthol-6-carboxylate with 2-(N-methyl-N-octadecylamino) aniline-4-sulphonic acid.
