906,843. Mould materials. BOCHUMER VEREIN FUR GUSSSTAHLFABRIKATION A.G. Nov. 4, 1960 [Nov. 6, 1959], No. 38017/60. Class 83 (1). In a vacuum casting process for soft rimmed steel ingots the mould has a thin coating comprising a major proportion of a solid reducing agent and a minor proportion of a binding agent. The reducing agent may be a metal such as A1, Ti, Mg or Zr, or a mixture thereof, or it may be a mixture of a metal and finely divided carbon such as graphite. The binder may be an oily or tarry material. The coating may also include an agent which at the casting temperature will have a liquefying action on the solid or pasty reaction products in the steel.
