[Also in Group XXXVIII] To enable a kine projector, coupled for associated working with a tape-recorder, to reach operating speed and synchronism rapidly, a resistor, normally connected in series with the projector motor, is initially short-circuited to provide a higher than normal starting torque. The tape is driven by a capstan 11 and pinchroller 14 forming part of the projector drive and a rocker-mounted roller 7, in known manner, gauges the tape-loop 16 and varies a rheostat 4 connected in series with the projector motor. In the circuit of Fig. 2, the voltage across the motor 13 is rectified by the network 18 to operate the relay 19 via the slugging arrangement 20, 21, 22. The delay in operation of the relay depends inversely on the voltage available across the motor 13 so that after an interval appropriate to the mains voltage available, the relay 19 opens the contact 19 to restore to the circuit the resistors 15, 17. Resistor 15 will normally be present in the projector, 17 can be finely adjusted. The time-constant of the circuit 19, 21, 22 is so arranged as to prevent relaxation oscillations in the control gear.
