The solid material may have a particle size between 0,002 and 0,1 inch and the mixture may be extruded into a heated fluidized bed and vulcanized continuously while being drawn through the bed, or articles may be immersed in the bed and vulcanized. Specified rubbers are natural rubber, polyisoprene, polybutadiene, butadiene-styrene, butadiene-acrylonitrile, polyurethane, polyethers, ethylene-propylene copolymers, silicones and fluorinated hydrocarbon elastomers. Apparatus for carrying out the process and comprising a horizontal trough 1 with gas or steam inlets at the base 3 and 4 with the solid material, e.g. sand, 7, resting on distributers 6 such as porous rings, tiles or candle-type distributers and carrying in at heating elements 8, the mixture being extruded from extruder 11 under guide 13 to haul-off mechanism 14, is described as are also variations using a vertical column or a U-tube.
