Abstract

A resin drug salt having prolonged anti-histamine effect is obtained by mixing a finely-divided cation exchange resin obtained by sulphonation of a copolymer of styrene and divinyl benzene in which the polymer is crosslinked with from 5 to 15% of divinyl benzene and there being between one and two sulphonic acid groups per benzene ring, with a water solution of a salt of carbinoxamine [2{p-chloro-a - (2 - dimethylaminoethoxy) - benzyl}pyridine]. Pharmaceutical compositions containing the resin drug salt are exemplified.ALSO:Pharmaceutical compositions in tablet, troche, lozenge, capsule, suspension or ointment form comprise a resin drug salt having prolonged anti-histamine effect and obtained by mixing a cation exchange resin which is a sulphonated copolymer of styrene and divinyl benzene with water solution of a salt of carbinoxamine [2{p-chloro - a - (2 - dimethylaminoethoxy) - benzyl} pyridine]. The compositions may comprise ingredients selected from gelatine, water, glycols, suspending agents, oils, alcohols, starches, sugars, kaolin, salts, lubricants, binders, aluminium hydroxide, pigments, vanillin, calcium stearate, tragacanth, sodium benzoate, methyl and propyl para-hydroxybenzoate, and citric acid.
