Abstract
A batch of fresh milk contaminated with penicillin is rendered suitable for use in the production of cheese and other milk products by filtering the batch through a milk filter incorporating penicillinase. The filter may be prepared by adding 0,5 ml. of a 10,000 Schenley units /ml. solution of penicillinase to a sterilized, single gauze filter disc of 6 1/2 inch diam. and causing the solvent to evaporate in an incubator.ALSO:A batch of fresh milk contaminated with penicillin is treated with penicillinase by filtering the milk through a milk filter incorporating penicillinase, preferably in a quantity sufficient to inactivate completely the penicillin contained in the batch, prior to pasteurization thereof.
