Abstract

A process of preparing a barium alkyl phenate comprises reacting barium phenate with an alkyl phenol, the barium phenate being optionally formed by reacting barium sulphide, phenol and alkyl phenol in the presence of water. The examples relate to the preparation of barium salts of nonyl-, diononyl-, octyl- and tertiary butyl phenols. The products are employed as antioxidants.
