904,948. Hose fittings. DUFFIELD, F. R. June 26, 1961 [Feb. 3, 1961], No. 23028/61. Class 99(1). A lip seal type of hose fitting comprises a sleeve 10 having a screw-threaded portion 12 engageable on an externally screw-threaded portion 14 of a nipple 15 or other connecting member, the bore of the sleeve tapering away from the portion 12 and the nipple having a bore part tapering from the threaded end thereof to a counterbore 22 defining a shoulder 24 between the bore of the nipple and the counterbore, an insert 20 for insertion into the bore of the hose and having a radial end face for engagement with the shoulder, a supporting member 28 having a bore and front and rear conical surfaces 30, 31 for insertion between the braid 29 and inner layer 23 of the hose to grip the braid between the tapering bore of the sleeve and the cone 30 and the layer 23 between the bore of the member 28 and the insert, the conical surfaces of the cone 31 and the tapering bore of the nipple 15, as the screw threaded portions 12, 14 engage co-operating to urge the member 28 between the braid and layer 23. As shown, the member 28 is formed with a groove 32 so as to permit deformation of the cone 31 radially inwardly and the insert has a hose gripping surface 25 and an end flange 21 for abutment with the shoulder 24; a sealing member may be located between the flange and shoulder.
