Abstract

904,707. Ornamenting. SALADIN, F. E. June 21, 1960 [June 25, 1959; Jan. 4, 1960], No. 21643/60. Class 93. Ornamental articles are produced by securing to a support a flat ornamental-shaped hard metal or plastic plate, which may be perforated, and embedding it along at least a part of its outline in a layer of material adapted to harden subsequently, the layer extending over the support up to the upper level of the plate. Where the hardenable material is transparent or translucent, it may extend over the upper surface of the plate. The support may finally be stripped off. The plate may be of metal or plastic material, and the hardenable material may be shellac. As shown, an ornamental plate B is secured to a wooden block A and plastic material is poured around the plate B and in the opening D. The panel obtained may be polished. The inner opening D may be left empty, or may be filled and no hardenable material poured around the plate B. The hardenable material may be applied to the support first and the ornament embedded therein. The hardenable material need not be applied by spreading. More than one ornament may be used, and the support may have an outline matching that of the ornament.
