[Also in Group VI] A device for everting the cut end of a blood vessel over a suturing apparatus bushing 1 through which the blood vessel is passed, comprises a cylinder 7 having a closed end and an open end, a piston 11 and piston-rod 15 reciprocable within the cylinder, a nozzle 12 projecting from the piston through the open end of the cylinder when the piston is in forward position, a passage connecting the nozzle with the cylinder interior by way of the piston, means for admitting fluid under pressure into the cylinder and a flexible collar 25 seated on the nozzle and extending outwardly to the open edge of the cylinder where it is secured by a peripheral rib 29. In use, the cut end of the blood vessel in a clamp 3 is applied to one side of the bushing through which it is drawn by a flexible suction tube (not shown) applied to the other side of the bushing. With the piston retained in forward position by finger pressure on a screw 18 at the rear end of the piston-rod, the nozzle 12 is inserted in the blood vessel and fluid under pressure, e.g. gas or saline solution, is admitted to the cylinder through a passage 22 in a tube 21 attached to the cylinder, and thence to the nozzle and the blood vessel so that the latter expands over the nozzle and a portion of the collar 25. The cylinder is then moved by hand forwardly over the piston, thus folding the collar and the cut end of the blood vessel over the bushing.
