Abstract

902,843. Bayonet fastenings. GENERAL MOTORS Ltd. Dec. 30, 1960 [Dec. 30, 1959], No. 44232/59. Class 44. [Also in Group XXVIII] A filter element for an air cleaner is arranged within a casing comprising upper and lower shells 2, 3. The upper shell 2 of the casing has an annular end portion 16 forming a seat for the periphery of the lower shell 3, the shell 2 being formed with opposed inwardly-protruding ribs 17 and the periphery of the shell 3 being formed with complementary recesses 18 and, to one side of each of the latter, with a corrugated portion comprising a trough 19 flanked on either side by a crest 20; the shells 2, 3 are detachably secured together by placing the ribs 17 in register with the recesses 18 to allow relative axial movement of the shell 3 into the shell 2 and then rotating the shell 3 to position the ribs 17 in the troughs 19. On the other side of each recess 18 the shell 3 is formed with a deeper crest 21 to act as a stop for ensuring that the shell 3 is rotated in the correct direction.
