Abstract

902,708. Composite pictures. TOWNSEND CO. Oct. 26, 1959, No. 36273/59. Drawings to Specification. Class 11. Apparatus facilitating the construction of a composite picture bearing a likeness to the face of a person from a description thereof, comprises a plurality of groups of transparent foils, each groop relating to a separate facial feature, e.g. eyes, lips, chin lines, and containing a plurality of foils illustrating the feature in various shapes and expressions, whereby a single foil is selected from each group and superimposed with foils from other groups to construct said composite picture. Reference points designating the average relative positions of a number of facial features are marked on a reference frame and a plurality of different facial features are drawn separately on the reference frame substantially in register with the reference points and photographed to produce said transparent foils, the reference points ensuring that the features are in proper registration when the foils are superimposed. The foils, which are housed in a partitioned box, are indexed and illustrated in a reference catalogue to facilitate selection thereof. Each foil has three notches in one edge whereby superimposed foils are assembled and maintained in register in the lid of the box and the relative positions of the facial features adjusted to lengthen or shorten the face, by engaging one of the notches of each of the superimposed foils in a projection in said lid. A transparent grid sheet is provided whereby the position of a scar drawn on the completed picture may be indexed by reference to the co-ordinates of the squares corresponding to said scar, or a scar may be drawn in on the picture in accordance with such an index.
