Abstract

A locking arrangement for a hinged panel, particularly for a casement window (11,12) to be held shut by a double-acting (cremorne) lock (70,71). The lock is manually operated by a rotatable handle (37), mounted on the panel lock section (43), by way of intermediate gearing (76,70,71) most or all of which is located within the panel lock section. The gearing actuates two operating rods (30,31) which in a preferred embodiment are within the spare chamber (56) of an extruded window panel e.g. of PVCu, each being supported adjacent their one end (30a,31a) in the respective panel connecting section (2,3), and at their other end (30b,31b) by the gearing. The rods are usefully releasably connected (31c,73b) to the gearing. Also disclosed is a frame and panel combination, the frame connecting sections (2,3) each carrying keepers (32,33) which the rods (30,31) can engage upon linear movement from the unlocked to the locked condition, and relative to which the rods when in the locked condition can move perpendicularly to the said linear movement. <IMAGE>
