A safety control mechanism for controlling the operation of at least one fluid-pressure actuated apparatus, such as a press, comprises at least two individual valves 1, 11 which are connected in parallel and actuated simultaneously either mechanically or by solenoids 15, each valve being connected to only one fluid-pressure actuated apparatus by outlets 3 and having a movable valve member 4 adapted to engage a valve seat 5 to close a valve port connected to a pressure inlet 2, and each valve seat having a channel 6 connected to a pressurecomparison means 9 whereby in the event of faulty operation of one of the valve members, the pressure-comparison means automatically interrupts the pressure supply to the fluidpressure actuated apparatus. The channel 6 in each valve seat is connected by a by-pass 7 to the pressure inlet 2 and by a conduit 8 to the pressure-comparison means consisting of a piston 9 spring-urged to a central position in a cylinder. Faulty operation of one or other of the valve members results in a pressure differential at the valve seats moving the piston 9 to actuate a member 11 interrupting the supply to the fluidpressure actuated apparatus by operating a switch 16 in the circuits to the solenoids or by shutting off the pressure supply to the inlets 2. An adjustable throttle 13 may be disposed between the ends of the piston 9 to permit slight fluctuations of pressure to occur in the channels without operation of the member 11. The valves may be combined in a double valve or each valve may be of the three-way type having further valve seats 5<SP>1</SP> provided with channels 6<SP>1</SP> connected by by-pass passages 7<SP>1</SP> to the pressure inlets 2 and by conduits 8<SP>1</SP> and one-way valves to the ends of the same or a separate piston 9. Each valve member 4 has a projection 13 which acts to close the port between the inlet and outlet before the valve member engages the valve seat.
