[Also in Group XIX] A calculating machine (see Group XIX) has mechanism for printing, in a cycle of operation, a number set up in a pin-carriage 2 by the operation of the keys of a single-bank keyboard, and also a decimal point in one of a number of possible denominational positions. Printing mechanism.-Type wheels 21, Fig. 1, geared to extensions 18b of the actuators 18 are mounted on swinging plates 23 normally held in the position shown by arms 29 which are allowed only a small pivotal movement relative to the plates 23 and are engaged by a restoring bail 31. Co-operating with each arm 29 is a trigger 33 carrying a finger 36 having an ear 36b co-operating with an arm 38. If the actuator 18 moves from its zero position, the arm 38 raises the finger 36 into engagement with a bail 37 which is rocked when the actuators have moved to their differential positions so as to actuate the triggers 33 and release the arms 29 and plates 23 to swing the type wheels against the platen under the action of springs 30. Projections 29a of the arms 29 hold the type wheels against rotation and ears 33b of the triggers 33 ensure the printing of zeros in orders below significant digits. Printing decimal point.-The swinging plates 23 for the fifth, seventh, ninth, eleventh and thirteenth orders carry slides 22 with decimalpoint type 22a one of which may be raised to effective position by depression of a corresponding one of a row of decimal-point printing key 4. A detent slide co-operates with these keys so that depression of one of them releases a previously depressed key. A clearing key is provided. Depression of a key 4 rocks a lever 45 connected to a lever 47 which raises a cam arm 49 to engage a roller 22b on the decimal-point slide 22. When the swinging plate 23 is released to effect printing in that order, the slide 22 is raised and a decimal point is printed to the right of the digit. If there are no significant digits to the left of the decimal point, a finger 51 rocked by the cam arm 49 raises the finger 36 to ensure the release of the trigger 33 for that order to effect the printing of the decimal point and a zero to the left of it.
