Abstract
901,214. Multiplex systems. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Jan. 20, 1961 [Feb. 2, 1960], No. 3712/60. Class 40 (4). In a frequency division multiplex carrier system a coupling circuit comprising two hybrid transformers and an impedance bridge connects five branch paths to a common path, one of the branch paths being for supervision and being connected into the circuit as a phantom. As shown, the branch paths P1 and P2 are connected to the differential windings w1, w2 of a hybrid H1, and the branch paths P3, P4 are connected to the differential windings w1<SP>1</SP>, w2<SP>1</SP> of a hybrid H2. The commoning windings of the hybrids w3, w3<SP>1</SP>, are connected across opposite diagonals of an impedance bridge IB and from centre-taps X, Y, connect the fifth branch path P5. One of the arms of bridge IB comprises the input, or output, depending on which way the coupling circuit acts, of an amplifier A connected to the common path P6. Matching is discussed for the case of symmetrical hybrids to determine the value of resistors Rs1 to Rs7, given the value of resistor Rs8 or Rs9. The hybrids need not, however, be symmetrical. By using two such coupling circuits involving four hybrids and two bridges, the bridges each having an arm comprised by one of the differential windings of a fifth hybrid the commoning winding of which is connected to the common path, ten branch paths may be coupled.
