Abstract

1,124,351. Hybrids. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 14 Sept., 1966 [15 Sept., 1965], No. 39478/65. Heading H4R. A circuit for transition from four-wire to two-wire signal paths comprises two pairs of a four-wire line terminated in a " send " amplifier 4 and a " receive " amplifier 5 respectively. A " hybrid " has a terminal 1 connected to the two-wire line, a terminal 2 connected to the input of the " send " amplifier 4 and a terminal 3 connected to the output of the " receive " amplifier 5. The remaining wire of the twowire line, the other input of the " send " amplifier 4 and the other output of the " receive " amplifier 5 are connected to a common earth line 6. The input stage of the " send " amplifier is the emitter electrode of a PNP transistor 7 connected in common base configuration. The input impedance is reduced by negative feedback (not shown). The " hybrid " comprises a PNP transistor 12 providing one of two paths to the input of the " send " amplifier 4. When a source is connected to the terminal 1, the applied signal is transmitted by the transistor 12 to the " send " input terminal. In the case of a received signal from the receive pair of the four-wire line, the transistor 12 acts as an emitter-follower and a signal is developed across the two-wire line connected to the terminal 1. The " receive " amplifier 5 also supplies signals through a balancing resistor 14 and the transistor 12 to the " send " amplifier 4 but these signals are of opposite phase and cancel.
