Abstract
N-isopropyl-N1-phenyl-p-phenylene diamine is prepared from p-aminodiphenylamine, acetone and hydrogen in the presence of hydrogenation catalysts at elevated pressure and temperature where the process is carried out continuously in a plurality of seriesconnected reaction chambers and a portion of the total quantity of acetone used is introduced into each reaction chamber. The reaction is preferably carried out at 180-210 DEG C. and 180-200 atmospheres using 1.5 to 4 mols of acetone of which at least 1 mol is introduced into the first reaction chamber. In the example the process is carried out using a copper-chromium catalyst.
