Abstract

Topical analgesic compositions comprise a hydrophilic carrier; at least one of mono-, di- or triethylamine salicylate and N-alkyl substituted salicylamides; at least one aminoalkyl ester of benzoic acid or alkyl ester of amino-benzoic acid; and at least one chlorinated phenolic compound. Specified benzoic acid derivatives are ethyl-p-aminobenzoate (benzocaine), butyl aminobenzoate and piperocaine hydrochloride; specified phenolic compounds are hexochlorophene, p-chlorophenol and chlorothymol. The compositions may be in such forms as creams, ointments, salves and sprayable compositions, i.e. solutions, e.g. in isopropanol in pressurized containers under argon or other chemically inert gases, e.g. CO2, which forms may optionally also comprise additives such as coolants, surfactants, fungicides and protective colloids.
