Abstract

899,247. Adjustable lathe centres. JACOBS WIND ELECTRIC CO. July 1, 1958, No. 21115/58. Class 83 (3). An adjustable lathe centre for correcting misalignment of work comprises a centre-point member 9, Fig. 1, having an eccentric tapered shank 7 frictionally and eccentrically engaged with a member 6. The thrust on the point 9a is taken partly by the tapered faces of the shank 7 and member 6 and partly by a screw 15 through a rotatably mounted ball 14. Centre point 9a is rotated to give transverse adjustment by inserting a bar in holes 12 on flange 8, the angle of movement being limited to 90 degrees each side of the vertical centre-line by a spring-loaded retaining pin 13 operating in a semicircular groove. The shank 7 and member 6 can be separated by operating screw 15 until pin 13 is released from the groove in member 6. In a modification, Fig. 4, shank 28 has a more gradual taper than the bore of socket 25, and the thrust on the centre is taken by a chamfer 27 which engages a shoulder 29 on the shank. A hardened insert 30a is eccentrically carried by the shank and the latter is held in socket 25 by a spring-urged split screw 32.
