Abstract

897,817. Floor drying machines. FISHER & NIELSON, A. S. June 28, 1960, No. 22669/60. Class 138 (1). [Also in Group XXXVII] In a suction apparatus for removing used cleaning water from floors the switch controlling the electric motor driving the suction fan is switched off when the water drawn into the receiving tank reaches a pre-determined level. The switching off mechanism comprises a tube 11, Fig. 3, extending downwardly into the tank from a casing 9 partitioned by a diaphragm 25, and as the water level in the tank 1 rises the air trapped in the tube 11 exerts an increasing pressure on the diaphragm 25 to lift a valve member 23 off its seat, thus permitting a flow of suction air through an ejector 10 and an aperture 29 in the casing 9 into the suction space in the tank 1. Suction is thereby applied to a tube 17 connected at one end to the ejector 10, and at the other end to a bellows 60, Fig. 4, to collapse the latter, so that a full rod 61 tilts a lever 54 to release a latch comprising levers 49, 50 pivoted together and held in a latching aligned position by a spring 52. The latch 49, 50 normally holds a U-shaped member 44, engaging the actuating lever 65 of the switch 66, in the switch closed position, but on release of the latch the member 44 is moved by a spring 46 to open the switch. The spring 44 surrounds the stem of a push button 42 by which the switch 66 may be closed. An additional push button 43 permits manual release of the latch 49, 50 to open the switch.
