An electric stove is provided with at least one spillage tray 26 immediately beneath a range housing several heating elements, the tray extends over at least the area of the space below the range over which at least two of the heating elements are located. In one form of cooker, four spirally wound elements 5-8, Fig. 1, are mounted on spacer cap 22 having radiating arms 23 of invented channel section which are mounted over a support framework 13-18. The framework is held in place by adjustable screws and locking rings 19, 19a, 19b or 20, 20a, 20b. Alternatively the spiral may rest on a grooved spider support. A cover plate 9, Fig. 2, apertured to allow egress of the elements is provided. The levels of the element surfaces relative to the plate 9 are adjustable in independent pairs (i.e. rear or front rows) by screw means 19 or 20 and the elements are rotatable about an axis 45. Immediately the heating element is mounted a drip tray 26, having domed protuberances 29 and 30 under the heating elements to allow spillage from the elements to run into copier parts 31, 32, and 33 of the tray. Below the tray is mounted a grill element 34 and a reflector 39 may be interposed between the two to reduce the heating effect of the grill element on the tray. Below the grill is a grill compartment provided with a door which may be designed so that the tray may be removed, for cleaning through it. In another form a storage compartment may be provided between the grill and the tray 26, the tray forming the ceiling of the chamber, its floor being formed by a removable tray. Alternatively the storage compartment may be below the grill, its top being formed by a fixed or movable partition or grill pan adapted to slide on runners at the sides of the compartment. The Provisional Specification states that the tray 26 may act as a reflector to direct heat from the spiral elements upwards, and an embodiment is described which has three heating elements mounted in the range and detachably secured to the sides of the unit, two in the rear of the range the other at one side at the front. Optionally the arrangement of heating elements, tray 26, grill compartment and storage compartment may be combined with an oven disposed beneath the lowermost compartment.
