Abstract

895,567. Reciprocating motors. WAHL CLIPPER CORPORATION. Oct. 10, 1960, No. 34600/60. Class 35. [Also in Group XIV] A vibratory motor used, for example, in an electric hair clipper, designed so that the power consumption-proportional to the amplitude of vibration-and power output of the motor does not decrease appreciably with load, comprises a coil 16, energized by a pulsating current, and a resilient armature assembly 18 (Fig. 3), consisting of a magnetic armature 20, free to vibrate in the field of coil 16 and a resilient T-shaped work arm 22 having the ends of the cross-arms resiliently bent at right-angles to hold moving teeth mount 24. At no load the armature assembly has a natural resonant frequency at least 20% below that of the flux pulsations, whilst the bent-over portions of the work-arm have a natural resonant frequency greater than that of the flux pulsations, the total resilience of the entire armature assembly being said to be so chosen that at stalling loads its natural resonant frequency rises to not more than 50% above that of the driving flux, and that the stroke length of the magnetic armature is never less than one-third of the stroke under no-load conditions, the frequency of vibrations always being equal to that of the flux pulsations.
