Abstract

1425693 Reciprocating motors D STOELZEL and E WILD 10 July 1974 [10 Jan 1974] 30538/74 Heading H2A A reciprocating motor for use as a hammer drive, comprises a magnetically permeable body 1 carrying a multi-phase winding 2, a reciprocatable armature 3 connected thereto via an energy storage device 6 and a control to supply current to the windings 2 such that the armature 3 reciprocates. The three-phase winding 2 is energized to provide a travelling-wave field towards the spring 6. The armature carries a conducting tube 4 and thus is moved in the direction of the field movement on the induction principle, thus compressing the spring. The supply to the three-phase windings 2 is then reversed, accelerating the armature 3 away from the spring until the bit 5 strikes a tool. In an alternative, the permeable body comprises parallel flat plates with the armature between the two.
