Abstract

895,387. Laminates. LENNOX-LAMB, D. C. Sept. 26, 1960 [June 29, 1959], No. 22168/59. Class 140. [Also in Groups XIV and XVII] A chair, motor-car seat, or packing-case comprises resilient padding made from an assembly of resilient pads having a backing formed in situ thereon and comprising one or more layers of a synthetic resin, such as a polyester or epoxy resin, reinforced with glass fibre or other fibrous material in mat or loose fibre form. The pads may comprise curled hair or man-made or natural fibres or mixtures thereof bonded with rubber latex, neoprene or the like, or foamed or expanded rubber, synthetic rubber, or synthetic resins such as polyethers, polyesters or polystyrene, and the synthetic resin of the backing may be so applied as to penetrate partly into the pads to bond the reinforcement thereto without destroying their resilience. The fronts of the pads may have a finished coating or covering, and the assembly may be finally shaped by moulding. A packing-case may comprise five pads, assembled to make an open box and held together by layers of glass fibre mat impregnated with liquid polyester resin, additional backing material being provided in the corners. A sixth pad similarly backed may be provided as a lid.
