Abstract

894,718. Non-linear circuits. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. Oct. 17, 1958 [Oct. 22, 1957], No.32893/57. Class 40(6). Fig. 2 shows in schematic form a non-linear circuit for producing from an input signal applied at 1 an output signal which varies according to the function a, b, c shown in Fig. 1. The potentiometers P1, P2, P3 are set to produce three outputs having the slopes required for the parts a, b, c of the curves shown in Fig. T. The output from potentiometer P2 is supplied to an adding device Al to which is also applied a variable bias source from potentiometer P4 and the output from the adding device is applied to one input of a double diode discriminator tube V5 to the other input of which is applied the output from potentiometer P1. The discriminator V5 passes anode current only from that cathode which has the lower voltage applied to it. The third voltage derived from potentiometer P3 is applied to an adding device A2 to which a bias voltage derived from potentiometer P5 is also applied and the output of adder A2 is applied to one input of the double triode discriminator V6 to the other input of which is applied the output from discriminator V5. The output from the discriminator V6 will follow the more positive of the two inputs applied to it. In the circuit described, Fig. 3, for carrying this into effect, cathode follower isolater stages are provided between the various inputs and resistor networks provide the function of the adding circuits Al, A2 (Fig. 2).
