Abstract

894,577. Anti-skid brakes. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. Aug. 28, 1958 [Sept. 5, 1957], No. 28017/57. Class 103 (1). In a combined disc brake and anti-disc unit, a rotary-inertia anti-skid unit 19 is secured to an extension 14b of the caliper housing 4, 5 of the disc brake and driving means is provided in the form of a toothed pinion 22 in driving engagement with a co-operating ring gear 21 formed on the periphery of the brake disc 1. The brake disc 1 may be protected by a non- rotatable dust shield housing 25 as disclosed in Specification 693,919 and the pads are of rectangular section and are removable in a radial direction for replacement purposes by removal of retainer member 13 as disclosed in Specification 880,870. Alternatively, the rotary inertia unit 19 may be mounted as in Fig. 2; a bevel ring gear 27 being formed in the inner peripheral edge of the disc 1 and engaged by a bevel pinion 28 of the unit 19.
