Abstract

894,403. Vices. LARRAD (HYDRAJAWS) Ltd. July 17, 1958, No. 13322/58. Class 61. A gripping device for holding a series of round workpieces between the jaws of a vice comprises a body 1 having a series of bores 4 each slidably receiving a plunger 5, sealing ring means being provided between each plunger and its bore and the ends of the bores remote from the operative face being inter-connected and closed to the exterior for receiving a body of fluid common to all the plungers. The enlarged ends 6 of the plungers 5 are retained in counterbores 10 to the bores 4. The counterbores 10 are communicated by fluidways 11 formed by grooves in the rear face 12 of the body 3 some of the fluidways communicating with at least one filling orifice 13 which is normally closed by a screw plug 14. A removable cover plate 15 is secured to the remote face of the body in a fluid-tight manner. The plungers 20 have V-grooves 24 across their heads for holding a series of workpieces 25 for which purpose a locating plate is employed provided with corresponding V- grooves 27.
