Abstract

894,328. Glass compositions. CORNING GLASS WORKS. June 21, 1960 [July 1, 1959], No. 21714/60. Drawings to Specification. Class 56. [Also in Group XXXVI] A sealing glass has a composition consisting essentially by weight of 38 %-42 % P 2 O 5 , 20%-25% Al 2 O 3 , 13%-17% Na 2 O, 8%-15% K 2 O, 4%-6% B 2 O 3 , 4%-7% Z n O and 0%-3% of one or more other divalent metal oxides the total of all divalent metal oxides being 4%-10% and the total of all alkali metal oxides being 25 % to 29 %. The preferred composition is 40% P 2 O 5 , 23% Al 2 O 3 , 15% Na 2 O, 11% K 2 O, 5%B 2 O 3 and 6% Z n O. The glass is used for sealing to metal having an expansion coefficient of at least 175 x 10<SP>-7</SP>/‹C. (see Group XXXVI).
