Abstract
893,905. Railway vehicle buffers; shock absorbers. OLEO PNEUMATIC Ltd. June 19, 1959 [June 19, 1958], No. 19703/58. Classes 103(5) and 108(3). [Also in Group XXX] A telescopic buffer or like shock absorbing device comprising a hollow or solid plunger 2 having a radial flange 10 provided with an inclined, flat, or rounded face 11, has an annular wall 13 of the head 6 or other end member inwardly deformed to engage the back face of the flange. The head or end member may be formed with a spigot 12 which enters either a recess in the end of a solid plunger or the hollow end of a tubular plunger. Alternatively a separate plug may be retained in the end of the tubular plunger 2 instead of providing the head with a spigot. Where the invention is applied to a hydropneumatic buffer of the kind having a metering pin controlling fluid flow into a space 8, and a floating piston 7 cushioned by compressed air in a space 9, a sealing ring 14 may be provided either in the spigot 12 or the plunger 2. In a modification the flange 10 can be disposed axially inwardly of the plunger end.
