Abstract

893,869. Wells. RANNEY METHOD INTERNATIONAL Inc. Sept. 21, 1960, No. 32506/60 Class 85. A well comprises a vertical shaft 10 and infiltration tubes 12 radiating through port holes 52 in the lower end of the shaft. The tubes consist of units 22 each of which has a perforated inner pipe 24 surrounded by inner and outer screens 26, 28, a bed 32 of coarse material within the screen 26, and a bed 34 of fine material between the screens. Blank pipes 54 carrying heads 56 are pushed outwardly from the port holes and the tubes are inserted within the pipes. The blank pipes are withdrawn into the shaft except for a small portion adjacent the port-holes. During the withdrawal of the pipes water may be supplied by tubes 62 to wash out fine particles from the surrounding soil to condition it, the water and particles returning in the direction of the arrows 68, 70, 72 to the shaft.
