Abstract
893,618. Film projectors. BAUER G.m.b.H., EUGEN. April 12, 1960 [Jan. 22, 1960], No. 12977/60. Class 97(1). A cinematographic projector has a take-up shaft which is driven by a function clutch in which means are provided which, when the projector is started, for a short time increase the bearing pressure of the friction clutch beyond the value determined by the weight of the spooled film and its reel and thereafter become inoperative again. In the take-up spool control means shown in Fig. 2 the spool 16 is mounted on a shaft 17 which is pivotably mounted on one end of a lever 26 which in turn is pivotably mounted on a shaft 27 and has at the other end a friction disc 28 which engages the internal surface of a friction drum 22 which is driven by motor 25. The lever 26 has a pressure lever 29 attached to it which is connected by a spring to the armature of an electromagnet 31. The motor 25 is started by a push button operating through a relay device. Simultaneously, the relay starts a motor for feeding the film and also energizes the electromagnet 31 so that the spring contracts to rotate the lever 26 and the contact pressure in the friction clutch 23, 28, and hence the speed of the take-up spool, is increased. When the motor has reached a preselected speed, the coil of the electromagnet is de-energized but by means of a timed relay the release of the clutch control is delayed for a brief period. In another embodiment shown in Fig. 4 the lever 26 is connected via a lever 64, strap 65, lever 66 and pin 69 to a lever 70 which has rollers 72, 73 in the path of the film and which is rotatable about a pivot 71. When the film is loose a spring 76 urges the lever 70 upwards and a force acting through the levers 66, 64 increases the pressure in the clutch. When the film is tight it pushes the lever 70 down to reduce said pressure. The lever 26 may be positioned so that part of the weight of the spool and film is carried by the pivot 27 (Fig. 2) and not by the friction clutch.
