Abstract

<PICT:0893263/III/1> Apparatus for applying paint or the like to timber-boards or the like comprises container means 1 having a reservoir 2 therein, a pair of upper and lower felt-covered rollers 6, 6a being disposed within the reservoir, the lower roller 6a having a reduced portion 6c which, along with the upper roller, presents an aperture through which the board can pass; the container also includes a pair of guiding-rollers 7, 7a, and brush means 14 and 15 at a position between the pairs of rollers and at the delivery end of the container. The upper rollers are urged against the lower by springs 9 acting on yokes 8 through which the axes 3 of the rollers pass. In operation, the reservoir 2 is filled with paint up to a level which will partially immerse the roller 6a, and boards 11 are pushed through the apparatus. Paint is applied by the rollers 6 and 6a, and surplus is removed and the coating smoothed by the rollers 7, 7a and brushes 14, 15; the brushes 15 are directed towards the edges of the board. A slot 1g is provided for the removal of surplus paint.
