Abstract

893,134. Finishing yarns; woven fabric. BRITISH NYLON SPINNERS Ltd. July 15, 1960 [July 24, 1959], No. 25414/59. Drawings to Specification. Classes 120(3) and 142(4) Twisted or twistless yarn, comprising a major proportion of undrawn or incompletely drawn synthetic linear polymer continuous filaments which may be of two or more different deniers, is drawn between feed and draw rolls, optionally with intermediate snubbing as caused by passage around a pin, separated to form two or more parts which are subjected to different temperatures, whilst their length is maintained constant, and the parts are then intertwisted. The reconstituted yarn is bulked as a result of differential shrinkage of constituent filaments caused by heating the yarn, before or after formation into a fabric, in the presence of water or steam: heavier denier filaments may form a core which is clad by the other filaments. The bulked yarn may be conventionally prepared as by doubling, braiding, looping, moist or dry heat-setting or sizing. The polymer may be a polyamide, polyester, polyurea, polyurethane and/or stereospecific polyolefine, e.g. polypropylene. Heat treatment(s) may be effected by passage of yarn over a hot plate or by hot nitrogen, steam, infra-red radiant heat, hot molten metal or a high frequency electric field. The yarn may be comprised in the weft (with nylon of different and/or opposite twist as warp) in a fabric which is subjected to moist heat to develop crepe effect therein. Specification 543,466 is referred to.
