Abstract
892,282. Pulse radar. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO. Ltd. Oct. 5, 1959 [March 26, 1959], No. 10699/59. Class 40(7). An M.T.I. radar system which allows cancellation of fixed target echoes received after a delay greater than the interval between transmitted pulses includes a fixed target echo cancellation channel in which echo signals resulting from a transmitted pulse are mixed with coherent oscillations phased by the oscillations of that pulse and at least one other cancellation channel in which the echo signals are mixed with coherent oscillations phased by the preceding transmitted pulse, and the outputs from the two channels are combined for M.T.I. display. The Figure shows a system in which echo pulses are applied, after mixing to produce I.F. signals, to parallel coherent detectors CD, CD<SP>1</SP> each of which feeds a subtractive combining device SD or SD<SP>1</SP> through two paths one of which has a delay DL2 or DL2<SP>1</SP> equal to the transmitter pulse repetition time. The second inputs to CD and CD<SP>1</SP> are obtained from a coherent oscillator COHO phased by the transmitted pulses; CD is fed direct, CD<SP>1</SP> through a delay line DLI. The outputs from SD and SD<SP>1</SP> are fed to a coincidence detector AG, responsive to the smaller of two coincident inputs, which feeds a display unit Two coherent oscillators may be used, one for each channel.
