Class 107 A machine for grooving unset concrete comprises a wheeled support frame which runs on rails positioned on each side of the area being grooved, a slatted shield which is lowered from the support frame to a rest position on the concrete surface and a cutting blade which is lowered through the slat in the shield to cut the concrete. The shield and blade are reciprocated in opposite phase and the frame, shield and blade may be adjusted to operate on surfaces of various widths. The support frame which includes two longitudinal members 5 and two end sections 1, is provided with a pair of wheels 2 at each of its ends and one of these pairs of wheels is supported in a structure 3 which is adjustable along the longitudinal members 5 according to the width between the rails. The cutting blade 8 is secured between angle sections 10 and an outer pair of height adjusting mechanisms support the angle sections and the blade at each end of the machine by means of roller 48 and strap 13 arrangements which permit reciprocation of the blade. Two strips 23, which together form the slatted shield are secured to angle members 26 which are also supported, at each end of the machine, by a second pair of height adjusting mechanisms which allow reciprocation of the shield. The blade and shield are reciprocated by connecting rods 17, 33 respectively connected to a crank shaft driven by a motor 58 via a gear reduction mechanism 57. Additional sections 9, 24 may be added to the blade and shield respectively to increase their length.
