This invention refers to abrasive machinery and more particularly to a machine for removing burrs and unevenness from holes drilled or punched in materials and particularly those of sheet metal, and is an improvement over the apparatus shown in Patent No. 2,384,164.
It has among its objects to provide a machine of this type that will be capable of removing burrs from a sheet of material as it passes through the machine.
An additional object of this invention is to provide a machine of this type that will have a counteracting movement of its abrassive members to prevent sidewise or transverse movement of the sheet to an objectionable degree while the burrs are removed from both sides of the sheet at the same time.
It is an additional object of this invention to provide a machine of this type that will be adjustable to various thicknesses of sheets.
A further object of this invention is to provide a machine of this type that will be capable of removing the burrs and other projections from both faces of a sheet as it is passed through the machine.
Other objects will become apparent as the invention is more fully set forth.
For a clearer understanding of the invention and the objects thereof, reference is made to the accompanying drawings, wherein a particular form of the invention is indicated. These drawings when used in conjunction with the following description serve to illustrate the invention, its principles and the operation thereof, while the claims indicate the scope thereof.

Figure 1 is a plan view of the burring machine embodying this invention with parts broken away to show its internal construction;
Figure 2 is a side elevation looking in the direction of arrows 22 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken along line 33 of Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken along line 44 of Figure 1; and
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken along line 5--5 of Figure 1.
Similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the drawings.
In the construction shown in the drawings a platform I is supported on legs H and is provided with slide bearings I2 having a T slot I3. Roller bearings [4 are supported on pins l mounted in bearings l6 attached to the platform Ill. A lower table I! reciprocates on the rollers 14 and the tongue [8 slides in the T slot l3 to align the table ll as it reciprocates back and forth. A sheet of abrassive i9 is attached to the lower table I? by screw heads 20 of screws 22 that draw portions of the abrasive sheet into indentations 2! when the screws 22 are tightened into the table ll. This method of attaching the abrasive sheet to the lower table enables the abrasive to be drawn tightly and present an even surface without buckling the abrasive sheet ing. An enclosure 23 comprisesa top 24 and sides 25 and 26 respectively, and is fastened to the platform 10, in any conventional manner. The sides 25 and 26 are fitted with aligners 2'! to guide the support 23 as it moves up and down through the rotation of hand wheels 36 and screws 29 in the threaded portion 39 of the top 2 3. The screws 29 project through holes in the support 28 and are fitted with collars 32. The support 28 is provided with angular walls 33 to receive a tongue 34 attached to the upper table 35 and support the upper table 35 as it reciprocates back and forth. An upper table abrasive 3B is fastened to the upper table 35 by screws 22 and their screw heads 20 pulled into the indentations 31 in the manner described for attachment of the abrasive to the lower table II. The lower table I! is provided with a bracket 38 and a connecting rod 39 held thereto by a connecting pin 40. The upper table 35 is provided with a bracket 4!, pin 42 for fastening one end of the connecting rod 68 to the table and the other end of the connecting rods 39 and 68 are fastened to a crank shaft 43 mounted in supports 44 and rotated by a motor 35 through pulleys 45 and 4'! and belts 48.
The sheets 49 to be burred are fed through the machine by two pairs of resilient rollers 53 and 5| mounted on shafts 52 and 53 supported in bearings 54 and 55. The bearings 54 shaft 52 and resilient rollers are attached to the support 28 and raised and lowered with the upper table 35. The bearings 55 are mounted on sides 25 and 26 and support the shafts 53 and resilient rollers 5|. The shafts 52 and 53 are driven in opposite directions by sprocket wheels 56 and 51. A motor 58 through sprocket wheels 59 and E50 and chain Bl rotates a shaft 62, sprocket wheels 63, and and chains 64 to drive shafts 53 to rotate the resilient rollers 5i in one direction and through gears 57 and 55 rotate the resilient rollers 58 in an opposite direction. Indicators 66 are operated through gears 61 connected with the screws 29 and indicators 66 show the amount of space between the lower and upper abrasive sheets I9 and 3B. In the operation of the burring machine two indicators 66 are set through the operation of hand wheels 3| to correspond with the thickness of the sheet to be burred. The motors 45 and 58 are started and reciprocate the lower and upper tables I1 and 35 in opposite directions. The rollers 50 and 5| are rotated in opposite directions and feed a sheet 49 through the machine by the rotation of rollers 58 and 5! on one side and pulled through the machine by an opposite set of rollers 59 and 5!. As the sheets 49 are pulled through the machine the abrasive surfaces 19 and 36 which have been adjusted to the proper thickness of the sheet, remove all burrs or other projecting portions from both sides of the sheet at the same time.
While but one general form of the invention is shown in the drawings and described in the specification, it is not desired to limit this application for patent to this particular form as it is appreciated that other forms of construction could be made that would use the same principles and come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
1. A sheet burring machine comprisinga platform, legs for supporting said platform on a horizontal surface, rollers carried by said platform, a lower table reciprocably carried by said rollers, guiding means between said platform and said lower table, said lower table having a sheet of abrasive on its upper face, an enclosure secured to the said platform and surrounding said platform and lower table, said enclosure comprising a pair of opposite side walls covering said platform and lower table and a top cover joining said side walls and vertically spaced from the lower table, a support in the space between the cover and the lower table, means for adjustably securing said support to the aforesaid cover, an upper table carried by and beneath said support, said upper table being adjustably spaceable from the lower table by means of the aforesaid adjustable securing means, said upper table having a sheet of abrasive on its lower face, and pairs of rollers oppositely carried by the support and by the side walls of the enclosure for slidably carrying a sheet of metal between the aforementioned sheets of abrasives to remove burrs therefrom.
2. A sheet burring machine as set forth in claim 1 including guiding means internally carried by the aforesaid opposite side walls for the upper table.
3. A sheet burring machine as set forth in claim 1 including indicating means cooperating with the aforesaid adjustable means for the support to show the spacing between the tables.
